Biology:
S. blanda is a tropical freshwater diatom.
Diagnostic description:
Valves strictly lanceolate, ends lightly protracted subrostrate, margins continually convex. Length 165-195 μm, breadth 34-41 μm. Raphe narrowly lateral, external fissure distinctly hooked to the deflected central pores. Axial area linear, 6-7 μm broad. Central area forming a rather narrow fascia, not or very little expanded or narrowed towards the margins. Striae slightly radial in the middle becoming stronger, finally very strongly radial, 15-17 (not 10-12) in 10 μm. Areolae 12-14 in 10 μm, regularly and moderately denser paced (than 10-12).
Distribution:
Only found in type material collected from Rio Tapajós, Brazil.
